Mooncake BBQ Party @ Jo’s

The day after I got back from Kijal, I went for Jo’s long awaited BBQ party. We spoke about having this BBQ months ago and finally, it’s really happening. I offered to buy the soft drinks and bring salad. So, after I got up, which was around 2pm, I went to 1 Utama with Yaacob to buy the drinks, some snacks and the ingredients for the salad. I felt so like a grown up doing grocery shopping with Yaacob : )

But we’re not very good in knowing which kind of vegetable to buy for our salad. I was really confused by the amount of vegetables that was sold in Giant. I discovered a weird looking green fat and short thing which label read ‘cucumber’. Since when do they grow cucumbers who look like this?? The cucumbers I know are green, long and slender. Sigh… I am so NOT a domestic person and will make a terrible housewife, if I ever become one [hopefully I won’t!].

Yaacob’s mom was kind enough to help us make the dressing [she actually did most of the work, preparing the salad : P]. We borrowed 2 large beautiful wooden bowls from her, put the salad in there and drove to Jo’s place. It’s the first time I ever visited her place. It’s really a really nice place situated in a very quiet area. Very tranquil. Michelle [she called me to ask me for directions, got lost, and called me again to ask for more directions] arrived at the same time as we did, so we walked to Jo’s unit together. Her apartment is really cosy but the moment we walked in, a strong onion smell greeted us. It was so great that my eyes felt really uncomfortable, like it’s going to tear. We sat there at the living area talking to Stanley for a while, then helped to bring all the stuff down to the BBQ pit.

Stanley’s friends were already there to set up the place. Michelle and Jureen arrived shortly after and we girls helped ourselves to some salad, sat down and chit chatted. Yaacob joined Stanley and his friends at the pit, showing his BBQ prowess [after some practice during Dik’s BBQ party last month, he’s grilling the food like a pro]. Stanley’s friends introduced us to a non-alcoholic beer. They said it taste like real beer but minus the alcohol. Weird. But I didn’t taste it. Not really into beers. We girls ate, talked and ate some more whilst the guys worked hard at cooking the food at the pit. Some of Stanley’s friends lit lanterns and hung it around the place.

When the party was ended, all of us helped clean up the place. Then I sneaked off to the playground nearby to sit on the swing. I loved swings when I was a kid. Used to sit on the swings a lot and swung myself high. There’s this feeling of genuine happiness when I swung myself high in the air. I felt so carefree and started smiling to myself : D Yaacob spotted me at the swings and joined me there. We were like a couple of adults revisiting our childhood there. So fun!! Hehehe… We rejoined the others after we had enough of playing at the playground [Yaacob pulled a muscle while he was trying to slide himself across from 1 side of a pole to the other. Sigh… A sign that we’re getting old] and went up to Jo’s apartment to look at May’s wedding album [she purposely brought it for us to check out her wedding pictures].

The pictures were beautifully taken. She told us the outdoor locations were places that we will never know about. A beach at Sepang [I didn’t know there’s a beach at Sepang] with the most fantastic view. And an old bungalow at Ampang. May said she was quite dismayed when they first got to the bungalow because it looked to old and worn, not her ideal place of getting her pictures taken. But the pictures turned out great. Hmmm… Never underestimate the power of photography and unlikely photo shooting locations.

After going through her album, Yaacob and I decided to go home and call it a night. It was good fun. Next will be a steamboat party at my place. May insisted that we do it after her wedding in early November coz she’s trying to slim down for her big day. Can’t eat so much before her wedding. She doesn’t want to look fat. Okey dokey, I’ll plan the party after her wedding then.
