My car got banged last couple of days when I was on my way to work. The lorry in front of my stopped suddenly to make a right turn [the driver obviously was not introduced to the function of signal lights when he went for his driver's test!], I stepped on the brakes, and a few seconds later, I heard loud tire-screeching noise, then a 'BANG'.
At first I was wary and didn't dare to get outta my car as there are too many cases of carjacking and robberies where the robbers would purposely crash into victims' cars, then as the victims got out of their cars, they would be robbed, pushed back into their cars to be driven to the nearest ATM machine to be relieved of more money then dumped at the side of the road as the robbers drove off with their cars.
I was alone and I certainly didn't want anything horrible like that to happen. I looked around and accessed the situation. It was daytime, cars were all around me as it was really jammed and the driver who banged into my car was alone and didn't look like he had ulterior motives.
So I got down from my car to look at how bad the condition was. The driver of the other car got down as well. The first thing he said to me was, "Why did you stop?"
I stared at the short man. Was he blind not to see the hugeA$$ lorry in front of me? Well, he must be considering he still banged into my car even though it was not moving. I felt my temper rising.
"Didn't you see the lorry in front of me stop? So what do you suppose I do? Still drive on and ram into it?" I retorted.
"I didn't see," he replied.
He then suggested we move our cars to the side of the road as not to cause further mayhem to the already bad traffic.
After that, short man inspected the damage he'd done then turned to me and said, "It's just a little scratch. RM50 will do."
My eyes nearly popped out. I was livid! RM50?? What did he think I was? Some retard who didn't know the estimated cost for my car's damage??
"RM50?!" I snapped. "If I banged into YOUR car and caused THIS and told you I'd pay you RM50, will you accept it?"
He was silent and looked away uncomfortably.
"I don't want to talk to you. I'll get my Dad to come here and you talk to HIM!" I told him, coz obviously he thought he could get away with all these coz he's dealing with a 'helpless' girl.
So, I called Dad and he drove over.
When short man saw Dad, he quickly told him it's just a little scratch. Dad checked the trunk, the back passenger doors and the damage. Then he asked for RM100. Short man told him a damage like this will cost about RM80.
Hmmm... What happened to the RM50 he initially offered?
He kept insisting he didn't really bang into my car and it's just a little scratch. I told Dad quietly it's NOT a little scratch and he DID bang into my car.
After some nego, I think Dad didn't want to waste his time with short man and agreed to just take RM80.
Short man paid up and went off. Dad drove off as well. And I drove to work, seething. How dare he bang into my car then behaved like that?
As I drove, I was mentally cursing all stupid drivers on the road and was further enraged by more stupidity i.e. people who couldn't decide which lane they wanted to be on so they decided to drive in the centre, cars that drive way too slow in the fast lane, etc. My anger mounted to murderous thoughts when a motorcyclist [on a suicide mission, I think] decided to make an illegal u-turn at a junction where cars were heading towards him at top speed. He did not only endanger himself but the cars who had to avoid him. I was thinking of just running down this idiot like an ant. Coz he obviously has a brain like one.
But of coz, I didn't do that! Just a fleeting thought. That's all.
All in all, my day wasn't that great coz of this incident.
Ok, enough of the ranting. Let's talk about something happy now...
My little nephew, who by the way, has a name now: Ver Ronn, turned 1 month last Sunday. We had a dinner to celebrate. Will blog more about it and post up pics [after I get it from my sister] soon. There was some karaoke action during the dinner and I have a short video on Mom and Dad singing [hilarious!], so it's quite an eventful evening. Hehe...
Okays, gotta go get my beauty sleep now. Ta!
